Peace to the Psoas with Magi Pierce

The psoas muscles are powerful hip flexors and core stabilizers. They are involved in nearly every movement we make, even when we think about moving. When they are congested or strained it can cause lower back pain, anxiety, breathing problems, and funky walking/movement patterns. This workshop is designed to address all of the above! Through both yoga postures and isolated movement exercises, as well as a focus on breath, we will release, strengthen, and balance these powerful muscles.

The Seat of a Teacher: Continuing Education with Ame Wren

As anyone who has been through a 200-hr program knows, much of what you learn doesn’t get fully digested. We study, we pay attention and then despite our best efforts, 6 months later we find ourselves grasping for words to explain internal rotation or the concept of santosha. This program is designed for those who can relate. Through group and individual study, you will receive a thorough review of the basic concepts of yoga, how to weave a class effectively, living like a yoga teacher and ways to have an impact (moving from instructor to teacher).

Skillful Vinyasa with David Regelin

Develop a graceful and safe yoga asana practice by learning how to connect what you visualize with your actual practice. This vinyasa class strings together both classical and modern postural adaptations into a complete practice. The main idea is to develop a ‘skillful in means’ or ‘effortless effort’ practice where the many small efforts made to pay attention to seemingly small details, lightens the overall effort required to practice and holds the mind in a peaceful and focused state.

The goal of this class is to learn self-adjusting techniques that can facilitate well-adjusted posture and perspective. Simple concepts that describe how the body fits together will be made clear within the context of a sequential asana practice. The goal is to develop the skill to self-adjust.

This will be complemented by a selection of deep forward bend techniques that can turn anyone into a natural forward bender.

Deep Listening With Miles Borrero

Ancient yogis understood that our inability to listen to our own hearts makes us incapable of listening to the world around us. Nada yoga, the yoga of sound, explores just that. In these two hours, we will work with seed sound or bija mantra throughout the asana practice as a way to activate certain chakras. We will move with the breath, adding bits of sound to the movement in specific moments as a tether into the deeper realms of our consciousness. For it is sound, the ancient yogis believed, which connects us clearly and seamlessly to the highest parts of our subtle body and awareness.

More Warrior, Less Worrier with Magi Pierce

This practice will focus on standing well through the lens of both outer (physical) body and inner (subtle) body. We’ll look specifically at the Virabhadra Asanas (warrior postures) and anatomically how the alignment of the legs can directly affect and support the pelvis and lower back. This is an excellent class if you sit a lot (literally or energetically) as it will enliven the legs and offer both physical and mental cues to release worry and cultivate stability, clarity, and purpose.

We’ll reflect on the spiritual ideals and challenges prescribed in the text, and think critically about how its ancient teachings might apply (or not) to our own contemporary lives and yoga practice.
