DANIEL MAX (he/him)

I was first introduced to yogic philosophy while frequenting India in my teenage years. Born and raised in Israel, I left in my early 20s to travel East in search of greater perspective. There, in 2001, I began practicing meditation and yoga. These practices have supported me ever since and have provided me the opportunity to serve others.

My travels eventually led me to the US in 2003 to study holistic health. It is here that I became certified as a shiatsu practitioner, massage therapist, nutrition and health counselor, and have been teaching yoga since 2005. In 2012 I opened JP Centre Yoga, with co-founder Sejal Shah, with the vision of creating a community based environment which allows for each individual to go inward and cultivate the conditions that support personal and collective healing.

My teaching is informed by various schools of Vinyasa and my ongoing studentship in the Iyengar yoga system (since 2015) as well as by yogic philosophy rooted predominantly in Non-Dual lineage. My intention is to share the teachings of yoga in reverence to their South Asian heritage, honoring those who have cultivated and cared for these traditions for thousands of years.

What You Can Expect From My Classes

My classes tend to be dynamic and alignment-focused. This nuanced alignment-based approach provides students the opportunity to organize the body in a way that promotes longevity and yields greater bodymind awareness. It is also intended to bring greater understanding to the function of the breath and provide tools to consciously rehabilitate your nervous system from the daily stresses of life. Within the structured container of my classes, I leave space for you to intuitively align your practice in ways that feels most nourishing to you. Out of awareness of the intersectionality that each person holds, I aim to create an inclusive and welcoming space through my choice of language as well as by providing a multitude of posture variations that can serve the individual needs of different bodies.
