ANTONIO HUMPHREY (he/him)

My experience with yoga began towards the end of my time as an undergraduate in college. It was a tough and transformative time in my life when I was trying to learn healthy ways to deal with my stress and anxiety. I attended a few classes here and there, some taught by other undergraduates and others at local studios near my college. The year after I graduated I submerged myself in asana practice, attending classes about five days a week focusing on vinyasa yoga. Over the past few years, my practice has been more inconsistent and scattered until I decided to deepen my practice and complete my 200hr Teacher Training at JP Centre Yoga this year. Over the course of my yoga practice, I have forged a deeper connection and awareness of my body. I have learned to be more comfortable in my own skin and to take ownership of the space that I occupy—something that as a person of color, I have struggled with. On and off the mat I am interested in the ways that breath can be used to anchor one to the present, to engage the body, and in turn, influence the mind. My hope is that each of my students leave feeling more comfortable in their own bodies and develop a sense of self-acceptance and a commitment to growth.
