NIKKI GLENDYE (she/her)
My yoga journey began in 2020, when I found myself practicing on a bath towel (I wasn’t quite ready to invest in a mat) after being diagnosed with several health conditions. Encouraged by physical therapists, friends, and what felt like cosmic guidance, I decided to give yoga a try. What started as an experiment soon became life-changing - transforming not only my physical health but also my relationship with myself and the world around me.
What was once a tool to alleviate physical symptoms became my first access point to truly experiencing the present moment. Since then, yoga has become my way of purposefully engaging with life - helping me feel less reactive and more grounded, even in turbulent moments.
In May 2023, I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at JPCY, an experience that reshaped my path and purpose. I’ve been immersed in JPCY’s community ever since - first as a work-study and community class teacher, and now as Studio Manager. One of the gifts of being so involved is the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by our talented teaching team. I'm especially grateful for the teachers who have had a deep impact on me, including Daniel Max, Alana Brennan, and Jill Rodgers. One of my greatest joys as a teacher is passing along the knowledge that has been so generously shared with me.
What You Can Expect From My Classes
Having grappled with disconnection from my body, my deepest aspiration is to create space for exploration and self-acceptance in my classes. I believe yoga is for everyone, so I strive to use inclusive language and offer options in every class to honor that truth.
In my Mixed Levels classes, we typically begin close to the ground and gradually build toward larger, standing postures. I love weaving in repeated movements or themes, so you may notice familiar shapes that evolve and expand throughout class. Music plays a big role in my teaching - I often create playlists to help guide the rhythm of breath and movement. You can also expect cueing rooted in physical alignment, at least one pranayama practice, and (for those who consent) the option to receive hands-on adjustments.
Outside the studio, you’ll often find me in JPCY’s lobby (likely on the extra comfy brown couch), cuddling my cat Lou, or thrifting around Boston. I’d love to connect - feel free to reach out anytime at nikki@jpcentreyoga.com.
