FELLOWSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

FOR OUR 200 HOUR FOUNDATIONS YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

Equity and community support are central to our values at JP Centre Yoga.

In an effort to bridge the long-standing divide within the yoga community between privilege and under-resourced populations, we strive to create greater access and opportunity for communities that have been historically underrepresented in the yoga industry. One of the primary ways we work toward this vision is through our BIPOC Yoga Teacher Training Fellowship Program.

The Fellowship Program provides funding to prospective yoga teachers from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Developed through collaborative efforts with our BIPOC alumni and faculty, the program offers intentional, specific support for new BIPOC teachers, with the goal of expanding representation and diversifying leadership within the yoga teaching community.

This Fellowship Program is unique in that it offers both full tuition for our yoga teacher training and ongoing one-on-one mentorship from experienced BIPOC teachers during and after training. The Fellowship Fund an additional scholarship to any one individual interested in increasing access by teaching yoga to under-resourced populations, furthering our commitment to building a more equitable, inclusive, and accessible yoga community.

BIPOC Fellowships Include:

  • Full tuition for professional 200 hour training.
  • Weekly one-on-one support between fellowship recipients and BIPOC teacher mentors throughout the training and after graduation.

As Well As A Commitment to:

  • Bi-weekly Mentor Meetings (1 hour) during training.

  • Submitting Training Weekend Summary Forms.

  • Attending one class per week (in-studio or online - at least 10 with training faculty) at minimum.

  • Teaching one full class with mentor present prior to graduation.

Boston yoga studio yoga diversity initiative

The Back Story

Our studio has been working in partnership with Yoga Diversity Initiative since 2015 to offer full scholarships to People of Color in each cycle of our 200hr Teacher Training. In 2017 we added an additional scholarship path to to anyone, regardless of race or ethnicity, interested in teaching yoga in communities that have little to no access to the practice.

These educational pathways evolved once again when, having felt the impacts of the 2020 Movement for Black Lives, we realized we needed to do more for BIPOC students and future teachers. We formed a multi-racial teacher training committee and designed our current day fellowship program which provides both tuition and close mentorship from experienced BIPOC yoga teachers.

FUNDING

Our fellowship program is made possible thanks to the generosity of our community members. Please consider making a donation to support our mission of creating a more equitable yoga community.

How would you like to bring change by increasing access to yoga? If you have a vision, tell us about it in your application. We want to help you make it a reality!

“To me, representation is important and it meant everything to be mentored by an experienced, woman of color, yoga instructor. We were able to connect and discuss our experiences, as Black women navigating the yoga space. I gained so much perspective and insight” - Tiixa

“Removing the economic barrier and having guidance from mentors gave me access to a life changing experience and I feel both humbled and grateful for the chance to participate.” - Hazell
