FELLOWSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

FOR OUR 200 HOUR FOUNDATIONS YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

INCREASING ACCESS TO EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS & SUPPORT

Equity and community support are central to our values at JP Centre Yoga. In an effort to bridge the divide that has long existed within the yoga community between privilege and under-resourced populations, we have strived to create more access and opportunity for communities that are unrepresented within our industry. One of the ways we have worked towards the realization of this vision is through our Fellowship Program. The Fellowship program offers funding to prospective yoga teachers from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Developed through collaborative efforts with our BIPOC alumni and faculty, we aim to provide specific support to new BIPOC teachers with the hope of further diversifying the leadership of the yoga industry. This program is unique in its initiative because it provides both full tuition and ongoing one-on-one mentorship from more seasoned BIPOC teachers both during and after training. The Fellowship Fund also supports other programs and mentorship opportunities that aid in creating a more equitable yoga community.

Programs Include:

  • Full tuition for three BIPOC students.
  • Weekly one-on-one support between fellowship recipients and BIPOC teacher mentors throughout the training and after graduation.
  • Monthly affinity spaces for all BIPOC and white-identified trainees, led by BIPOC and white teaching staff respectively.
  • Full scholarship to any one individual interested in increasing access by teaching yoga to underserved populations.
Boston yoga studio yoga diversity initiative

The Back Story

Our studio has been working in partnership with Yoga Diversity Initiative since 2015 to offer full scholarships to People of Color in each cycle of our 200hr Teacher Training. In 2017 we added an additional scholarship path to to anyone, regardless of race or ethnicity, interested in teaching yoga in communities that have little to no access to the practice.

These educational pathways evolved once again when, having felt the impacts of the 2020 Movement for Black Lives, we realized we needed to do more for BIPOC students and future teachers. We formed a multi-racial teacher training committee and designed our current day fellowship program which provides both tuition and close mentorship from experienced BIPOC yoga teachers.

FUNDING

Our fellowship program is made possible thanks to the generosity of our community members. Please consider making a donation to support our mission of creating a more equitable yoga community.

    INCREASED ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP

JP Centre Yoga offers full tuition to an individual in each training cohort who is interested in primarily teaching to under-resourced populations - those who may not be able to normally afford or access yoga.

If you would like to see more yoga programs in facilities and neighborhoods that have any number of barriers to access yoga, this teacher training program could help you take a step toward that goal. How would you like to bring change by increasing access to yoga? If you have a vision, tell us about it in your application. We want to help you make it a reality!

    Applications accepted through 12/24.

“To me, representation is important and it meant everything to be mentored by an experienced, woman of color, yoga instructor. We were able to connect and discuss our experiences, as Black women navigating the yoga space. I gained so much perspective and insight” - Tiixa

“Removing the economic barrier and having guidance from mentors gave me access to a life changing experience and I feel both humbled and grateful for the chance to participate.” - Hazell
