What does it mean to welcome a new year while honoring our individual and collective lived experiences, and still making room for joy?
The Opening returns as an invitation to begin the year in the fullness of our humanity, honoring the rage, grief, tenderness, and joy that can coexist within us.
Created specifically for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, this two-hour gathering offers space to acknowledge what we experience and carry, reconnect with ourselves, and explore what it means to also experience pleasure, possibility, and hope without turning away from the realities of our lives.
Through trauma-informed yoga, somatic and intuitive movement, guided meditation, intentional rest, journaling, and moments of playful exploration, we’ll transition from through practices that invite expression, reflection, connection, and renewal.
Together, we’ll make room for the parts of ourselves that are hurting, the parts that are healing, and the parts that still long to dance, dream, create, and delight in being alive.
As we enter a new year, there is no expectation to become someone new, achieve emotional perfection, or leave behind the feelings and experiences that have shaped us. We can honor our wholeness without avoiding what hurts, recognizing that we do not have to become someone different to be worthy of a beautiful beginning.
This is an invitation to arrive as you are, honor all that you are, and remember that joy, pleasure, and possibility belong to you, too.
Let's gather and make room for all of it.
