The Four Gates of the Body with Andrea Fotopoulos

In the language of Functional Range Systems, the mind-body connection can be defined as MOBILITY.

Mobility is the intersection of strength, flexibility, and neurological control. The way we train our brains (and then our brains train our bodies) is impacted by our ability to continue to learn new things, work in new ways, and adapt to our ever changing environments & circumstances.

It's really important for our brains and our bodies to maintain the patterns that work for our everyday uses-but also, it is vital to train our brains and bodies to do new things. The hot word right now in movement circles is “neuroplasticity or brain plasticity." It is defined as the ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli by reorganizing its structure, functions, or connections. In other words, we can affect how we use our mind-body connection by training new and/or variable movements with more resistance or load..This way, we use it, so we don't lose it.

During this 3 hour workshop, you can expect to learn ways to mobilizing the spine, pelvis and shoulders that do not look like yoga postures, but function as a way to condition and strengthen joints to bare the load of our postures on and off the mat without pain and more joint range.
