NICOLA ROUX (she/her)
For most of my adolescent and adult life, yoga has been the way I find my way home to myself. My practice on (and off) the mat has been a constant amidst the ebbs and flows of life. After over a decade of being an avid and enthusiastic student of yoga, I decided to pursue my 200 hour yoga teacher certification at JPCY. In addition to teaching the Community Class, I offer hands-on assists and bodywork at Alex Bauermeister’s monthly Befriending Stillness workshop. With a trauma-informed lens, I hope to help others find home and safety in their bodies and minds through the practice of yoga.
Off the mat, you can find me catching babies as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Beth Israel, reading in cozy nooks, seeking out Boston’s flakiest pastries, or up a mountain somewhere.
What You Can Expect From My Classes
With the acknowledgement that this practice does not belong to one one person, it is my hope to hold space in a way that is safe, welcoming, invitational, and joyful. I’m inspired by the in-betweens—how we get from one shape to another, the pause at the top of the inhale or bottom of the exhale. Students can expect a mix of more vigorous vinyasa flow coupled with ample time for restorative postures, breath work, and rest.
