REGIE MAURICIO (he/him)

My journey to yoga grew as an extension of my own liberation journey sharing Dayna Lynn Nuckolls’ insight that “Revolution begins in the body.” Having spent years as a dedicated meditation practitioner, yoga came as a complementary practice to observing the mind, body, and spirit. Transitioning from a life in non-profit and philanthropic consulting to radical, justice-oriented, community-based organizing, I feel honored to share this practice with my students, particularly with QPOC and trans activist communities. My hope is to share what I have learned from my own journey with my community to realize the liberation of all beings.

What to Expect from My Classes

Yoga is a liberatory practice, and my classes hold space for community members to act from knowing and listening to the self in vinyasa flow. The “yoga” is in how we move but even more so in how we choose. To connect with our sense of agency, I offer many options for each asana, create opportunities for unstructured and intuitive movement, and encourage practitioners to take the shapes they need throughout class. There is no need to orient toward me or peers in class, only your own agency.

I offer alignment-focused, vinyasa flows focusing on a liberatory theme explored through the body such as processing grief through hip opening, finding stillness in balance practice, or releasing anxiety through lengthening. As a student of anatomy in yoga and my own sculptural art practice, I share alignment cues that deepen students’ practice through an anatomical understanding of how different asana benefit different parts of our bodies. Yoking mind, body, and spirit, I also weave in meditative elements throughout class and often end practice with a singing bowl. Let’s build a community of embodied liberation together!
