ZIMMIE OBIORA (she/her)
I took my first yoga class when I was 17, a seed that would continue to grow 9 years later. When I moved to Chicago in 2022, I stepped into a new city, hundreds of miles away from
everyone and everything I've ever known, and eager to build community. Yoga heard the call and answered, and I'm grateful it did. During my time in Chicago, I explored a number of different studios and styles, all of which challenged me into new ways of relating to myself.
I have always found the most security in being analytical; being meticulous and thorough brought me the greatest sense of control in such an uncertain world. While deepening my practice on the mat, I discovered a well of surrender and gratitude towards myself. I tapped into a different form of strength and control, one rooted in loving curiosity and kindness, rather than intellectualization and the need to be ‘right’ or ‘perfect’. Each time I show up on the mat, I am
eager to explore these depths, and I carry those new bits of awareness with me as I navigate the world.
I moved back to Boston to pursue my master's in Human Factors Engineering at Tufts University. As a Dorchester native, I was eager to build a yoga community in Boston and immediately fell in love with JPCY. The studio became my home base where I immersed myself in the diverse offerings and teachings of the community, ultimately completing my 200-hour teacher training with Daniel Max and Alana Brennan.
Both gentle curiosity and analytical force shape how I approach my personal practice and my teaching. Off the mat, I explore how people interact with complex systems, seeking to understand the delicate balance between human behavior and design. This intersection of technical precision and human intuition mirrors what I've discovered on the mat: that true understanding emerges not from forcing outcomes, but from creating space for authentic experience to unfold and maintain awareness of subtle changes and shifts from moment to moment.
What To Expect From My Classes
As a teacher, I'm passionate about holding space for students to discover their own relationship with surrender and strength. The mat is a laboratory for exploring how we show up in the world! My aim is to create classes that bring playfulness and curiosity to focus and intensity. Through that, students will explore their edges and celebrate breakthroughs when we trust the process rather than control it and listen to our intuitive guiding voice. My hope is that you leave feeling more connected to your innate wisdom.
